Week 2 of our kids prgram and we welcomed James and Lewis to the session. They will be great additions by the looks of things.
From week 1 we revisited the squat. We will work on this constantly as it is a fundamental part of everything we do. I was amazed at how much the kids had remembered and progressed from week 1. This gives me some added confidence in each of the children's abilities going forward.
We started with squat technique again with a 5 second hold and sprint drill. 4 times through each.
Then moved to pull ups. Most of the children were able to pull themselves up on their own but we worked on some low rep negative pull ups. We helped the children to the top position and asked them to lower themselves slowly to the bottom. 2-3 rep with 2-3 sets. Very impressive section!
We then had the children use the resistance bands to perform resisted sprints. We asked them to work on leg drive, quick feet and quick arms. Each of the children progressed through this brilliantly with Aaron, Livvy and Jacob quickly understanding the difference between using the above and not.
Then we taught the children the art of ball slams. They seemed to be very good at this - funny that. We went over sit up technique and then put the children through a short circuit.
Resisted sprints
Sit ups
Ball slams
15 secs on
25 secs rest
twice through each station. This introduced the children to some mild intensity with some basic movements and skills. I have no doubt each of these children will progress very quickly in the new movements being brought on.
Big thanks to Mark, Chris, Julie and Niki for the help with the session. These guys will be taking more involved roles as the number increase and sessions become more complex.
Well done kids!
