I know it is a bit early. But what are your goals for the new year? Mine is to complete some more marathons and if I can to run a 50 miler. And to complete a triathlon.

Snatch 90kg Clean and jerk 110kg Snatch balance and/or over head squat 100kg
Some kind of over head improvement as well. A heavy behind the neck jerk. Maybe 120kg.

150+ Squat 100 C&J 70 Snatch
And massive improvement in gymnastic skills
To be honest continued improvement across all lifts will keep me a happy boy. But getting the gymnastic element working would be a big win.
Oh and health and happiness for all as well.

OK, I'll put these down in writing. 100kg clean & jerk 140kg squat. Walking on my hands. There, I've gone and said it.

How's everyone doing with this? I PB'd my clean & jerk on Sunday, up 2.5kg to 90. If I can bump that up by 2.5kg each time I test it (every 8 weeks or so), then I should get the ton by the end of the year. Been squatting very consistently, but haven't tested any maxes. Will do that one soon. Not got far with hand-walking, but my handstand is getting more solid, and gymnasticsWOD have just put up some hand-walking videos this week, so fingers crossed...

Another update on these: had a really good gymnastics session on Wednesday night. Spent lots of time doing cartwheels, handstands and attempting handstand walking. Got to the point where I could walk half a dozen steps pretty consistently. Tried again today in between coaching classes and could do it again. I was deliberately vague in stating my hand-walking goal above, so I'll revise that now. I'm going for walking the length of the floor in the gym (about 25m) by the end of the year. And since it's sunny right now, I might just go and practice.

Kipping has improved and along with it my pull ups and t2b.
Getting back on the strength work next week now that the Open is out of the way.

Happy with that.

Glad to see that we are all heading in the right direction goalwise. I'm coming along well, got some choice events lined up for the summer, hopefully!

I was deliberately vague in stating my hand-walking goal above, so I'll revise that now. I'm going for walking the length of the floor in the gym (about 25m) by the end of the year. Quick update - this morning between coaching sessions, I got about halfway across the mat on my hands. Very happy with that, and even got a round of applause from some fellow coaches! So well on the way with that goal. Bit of a problem with the other 2 though - knee is still niggly, so I've decided to stop some/most barbell stuff for the foreseeable future in an effort to try and clear it up. Might keep trying to do some power clean and jerk work, since my knee plays up when it's flexed. Problem there is that I'm not sure how much my clean and jerk will actually improve without regular back squats, which just make me stronger across the board. Still, could be an interesting experiment, but I'll have to play this one by ear. My intention now is to focus on my gymnastics and then improve my conditioning - got the urge to give my kettlebells some serious love at the moment, so wil split the week between gymnastics and KBs, with some sprints thrown in once the ankle heals up fully.

Having a goal in mind is one of the most motivating tools we have in our life. A goal can be anything from losing five pounds to being able to do a pull up. It doesn't matter what the goal is as long as you have one and it is realistic. At its core, this fitness mantra philosophy is all about making good, small (usually) choices throughout our lives instead of falling into quick spurts of fad-diets. But, while choosing to live, eat and exercise right should be our lifelong mantra, tangible achievements almost always involve setting several short-term goals. And a proven way to ensure success is to make sure we are setting S.M.A.R.T. Goals. To lean more about what S.M.A.R.T.
