…So I decide to subscribe to M+F (3 editions for a £1) to see what the latest techniques in bicep curling is to build my wannabe 20 inch pythons for summer.
The first edition arrives on my door and I interestingly observe the 6-pack on the cover I wish I had and the headline worlds fittest man…oh yeah lets see.
So I just flick through am pleasantly surprised to glimpse …US Craze…oh yeah?…Low and behold, an article on our beloved CrossFit. Oh good, I need to sit comfortably to read this, Flick though some more, an article on Fedor Emelianenko…for non-mma Fans this is the UNDISPUTED best heavyweight mma fighter in the world. 2 Articles that I am interested in. I’m now happy to cancel my subscription before they charge me the full subscription…and I haven;t even got to the new bicep curl techniques to pump up my pythons
The CrossFit article.
Nothing new really to what’s previously been seen in the usual mainstream reporting of CrossFit…though the positive is that the reporters conclusion is fair and does say they wouldn’t exclusively do CF and it’s not for everyone but it does offer the chance to develop ones fitness and he’d definitely do it again. But most of the article focuses on the usual sensationalistic side of CF. Intense training, no clear structure, rhabdo, the legal case etc etc etc.
It was interesting to read that Alwyn Cosgrove, a fat loss guru who’s big in the states had apparently received death threats from CrossFitters after his name came up on CrossFit Radio purely by association to some people who really slated CrossFit (Mike Boyle - another ‘big name’ coach in the fitness – has some books on functional training).
That aside, at least CrossFit is getting exposure…there’s no bad publicity right.
-I haven't read about the fittest guy article yet.
3 hrs later:
'the worlds fittest man' did a physical challenge of:
12 mile run
12 mile speed march
3250 siit ups
110 mile cycle
20 mile cross trainer
2 mile swim
lifting 300,000lb using upper body
1250 pressups
1250 standing hip flexors
1250 star jumps
20 mile row
For time
Time: 18hr 26 mins
I don't know about fittest, but WOW, has my respect.
that's like over 1 week of WODs for me...
