Right, I was thinking about doing the whole protein shake thing after hard workouts. What is best/paleo? is it even necessary? Any thoughts?

I use myprotein recovery evo after work outs. I noticed an improvement in recovery times straight away. I used to use just a normal protein shake and some fruit. There's probably a more paleo friendly option out there.

Necessary? Depends on your needs. I would say that it's a pretty good idea, especially after hard WODs - that's when your muscles are basically sponges, so get the recovery nutrients in there ASAP. You also need some carbs in there to bring up your insulin levels to shuttle the protein into the muscle cells. As for Paleo, I don't think there are any. Protein powders are too refined really. I'd take the pragmatic approach here - the rest of your diet's good, and since you're approaching it from the point of view of nutrient quality (rather than treating Paleo like it's a religion!), then get some decent whey protein in you post-WOD. I use Holland & Barrett's ordinary whey (since I take the pragmatic approach about price!). Seems OK, mixes well. Since I tend to train first thing, I mix in a scoop of whey, half a pint of milk, a banana and a teasthingy or 2 of peanut butter and that's post-WOD nutrition/breakfast done.

If you go the myprotien route I've got a code that will get you a discount. Obviously there are plenty of other places you can get the stuff. The myprotien site can be a bit confusing if you don't know what your looking for. www.myprotein.com/uk/pages/home
