Hi,
So I've been reading up on Crossfit and it seems like something that I'd like to try! I'm looking to build some muscle mass now and increase overall fitness. I love to challenge myself and this seems one way to do it!
My only worry is I'm not sure how much of it I'll be able to do... My training has only ever been cardio - trail running, mountain biking, cyclocross, road racing, etc.
Needless to say I'm OK at endurance but: 1) I can probably do < 5 press ups. 2) Not sure I could do a single pull-up. 3) Lack co-ordination so not sure if I can 'skip'
Also not too well practiced in weight training in general...
Is it worth my while joining up or practicing a few of the bits first for a month or so? Wouldn't want to slow everyone down...
Joe.

Hi Joe,
Thanks for posting and being so honest.
One of the strongest facets of CrossFit is it's scalability that allows anyone at any fitness level get involved.
The way we run things at CrossFit Reading is to first get you to complete an 'on ramp' weekend during which we will take you through the essential movement that you will need to be familiar with to take part.
After that you can either book one to one sessions with one of the coaches or join the main group. When you join the main group all your lifts and workouts will be scaled to your ability and gradually increased as you progress.
If you would like to see how things run then please feel to contact me on 07515 369 004 to arrange a time to drop in and speak to one if us.
Hope to speak to you soon.
Paul

I was the same as you mate. Could quite happy bang out a half marathon but struggled to do a pull up. Stalked the website for a bit cos i thought i wouldn't be up to it. Just get stuck in. You'll kick yourself if you wait.

Get stuck in straight away mate. You'll learn proper mechanics for the lifts from the off that way. Otherwise you risk getting bad habits ingrained, which will be hard to unlearn.
